the apartment-hunting dream that you are not going to care about

but it's my diary, so there. pppptttthhhhhhhbbbbbtttt! and i so rarely remember my dreams in this much detail. i wanted to mark the occasion.

i dreamt that karl and i were apartment-hunting. we had found the fabulously huge and gorgeous apartment that we are, in real non-dream life, going to take. but we had heard that there was an apartment above/near the white dog that was available.

it was upstairs from the white dog, which didn't look like the white dog i know and love, and was at the same time at ground level. the front door opened into a ridiculously high-ceilinged room that was also painfully small and weirdly shaped. it was L-shaped, if you entered from the bottom-left corner of the L, facing the short side. the room was only like 7 feet wide. and there were kitchen appliances lining all the walls. and really ugly yellow-brown industrial carpet. the room was wider to our left, in the tall side of the L, but was for some inexplicable reason (or maybe this is how it was both on top of the white dog and not?) a ramp. a really steep ramp. i was thinking that the ramp was the only place big enough to fit a bed, but um... the bed would slide down the ramp. i asked judy wick, owner of the white dog, where people normally put the bed, and she pointed to a space on the wall that i had not previously noticed. just big enough for a bed, with a space to squeeze around at the foot. at the end of the short side of the L, there was a door to another apartment, which appeared to be just the one really small room. at the end of the tall side of the L, down the ramp, there was a door to the bedroom. why she didn't tell us about the bedroom when i asked about where to put the bed, i don't know. there was a mattress on a pedestal up some stairs (bed on a pedestal! great idea!). also on the tall side of the L, there was a door to the stairs that lead down to the restaurant. for some reason, i got the impression that the restaurant staff would come up to use our bathroom instead of the restaurant bathrooms, that are in the basement of the restaurant in real life (and labeled "pointers" and "setters"). this did not concern me. opposite the door to the stairs down, there was a door to the outside, inexplicably at ground level (i was in escher-world, apparently). outside, there was a nice yard, with grass and flowering trees. this is not how the white dog is in real life.

the apartment, as i believe i have said, was excruciatingly small. but, karl and i were considering it, even above the huge and gorgeous apartment we're moving into in real life, for two reasons: it was located close to the university (40th and baltimore, instead of 48th and baltimore, where we're really going to live. note that the real white dog is located at 34th and sansom, 6 blocks east and 5 blocks north) and the rent was $100/month. hello? $100/month! we thought that we might ask judy wick if she would consider including that other apartment that was just one room as part of the apartment we were looking at. that addition would have made the size tolerable for us (though we were apparently not considering the fate of whoever was renting that apartment currently).

then i woke up.
