helllll-llllo dawn

so what does it mean that i was up til dawn on *both* saturday night/sunday morning and sunday night/monday morning? hunh? well? first off, it means that today, i'll be consuming mostly coffee. otherwise it means i had two pretty good dates over the weekend.

date 1. peter

peter came over after watching a film (with a friend like harry, which i haven't seen, but i've only heard good things about), and we wandered down to dahlak (the neighborhood (well one of the neighborhood) ethiopian restaurants. the classier of the two. crucially (as we were having a heat wave) it was airconditioned. anyway, after dinner, we walked down to the neighborhood park and listened to the strangely rave-like music (but sans ravers), watched a pathetic game of whiffleball, and wondered about the hippy kids in a tent. at nine the music ended, and the lightening bugs were going away, and we adjourned to my apt to watch boogie nights which has been on my list of movies to see, but i'd never gotten around to. it had come up as a movie in which heather graham does a good job of acting (unlike austin powers, the spy who shagged me. then, we moved to the front porch swing (where the air was blessedly cooler) and talked til dawn. he was funny, he politely laughed at my jokes. it was a good date. ended with a hug (instigated by him) and a chaste kiss on the lips (instigated by me). a good date, though he's a little too "lard-not-hard" (hint: it's better to be the other way around) for me. a little too soft and squishy. not, i'm sure, what a guy wants to hear, but there ya go.

date 2. bryan

bryan picked me up at 7:30 in his new mitsubishi eclipse. not bad. he looked better in his online pic than in person, but then again, i probably do as well. something weird going on with his hair. also, a little narrow in the shoulder for me (i do so enjoy a nice upper body...). anyway, we went to warmdaddy's, a blues club/cajun restaurant in old city. yummy food (i had the catfish) and a *great* band last night. that bad was soooo coool. conversation was mostly good, although i get a little bit of a sense from bryan that he's perhaps a *touch* ego-centric. of course, i *could* have been that weird first-date vibe of trying too hard to impress. so, after warmdaddy's (he paid, like a gentleman), we walked around old city for about 1.5 hours. spent some time in the presence of independence hall (it is, after all, only a couple of days til july 4th), and finally sat down on a park bench. talked some more, and he slowly made a move. arm around my shoulder, you know, then finally a gentle head turn and a light kiss (which, of course, led to heavier kisses). so, we kissed on the park bench for a while, until i started shivering because it got chilly (front moved through). we went back to my place and picked up where we left off (after a brief and bad cello concert by me). one thing led to another, and he did a *great* job of jerking me off. i returned the favor with a well-received bj, toungue piercings fully appreciated (i was wearing the door knocker accessory--if you don't know what that is, you should take a few minutes to peruse some piercing sites). it was dawning (again!) by the time he finally untangled himself from me and the sofa and let himself out.

my thoughts on the two men: i wasn't fabulously physically attracted to either of them--peter was a bit soft, and bryan was a bit strange looking. peter's conversation revolved a bit too much around film trivia (of which he is the king) and bryan's conversation revolved a bit too much around his escapades in new orleans, and his talent on the guitar. though that could have been because we were in a new orleans style restaurant listening to blues, granted. bryan gets points for being confident in his skills, and knowing his way around a woman's body (there's some woman in his past who i should thank for teaching him well--whoever you are: THANK YOU). we shall see what the future will hold for these two.
