dishwasher: so the dishwasher saga appears (she says apprehensively) to be coming to an end. over a month ago, the dishwasher broke. dead in the water. no power at all. landlord sent a repair guy out. yup, it's broke. landlord says they're just going to replace it. couple of days go by. i ask when it'll be replaced. landlord says it will be replaced (yes, thank you) and give us a couple of days. almost 2 weeks later, on a monday, i say "we're happy to give you a couple days, but it's been nearly 2 weeks." landlord, on wednesday, says it'll be installed "either this friday or if not then, the following wednesday." karl stays home on friday. no dishwasher. i stay home on wednesday. no dishwasher. 4.30pm on wednesday, i call up and ask about it. no answer. thursday, karl calls up, landlord says "it was supposed to be delivered today" (um, then WHY THE FUCK did you tell us it was going to be last friday, or if not then, yesterday?!?), "but it's not, and we expect it tomorrow, we'll call to confirm." friday goes by with no phone call (natch), so my hopes are not up. but, i get home on friday and lo! and behold! there's a new dishwasher in the kitchen.

but, lest you think the landlord has finally come through, the old dishwasher was still there, still installed. so yes, they delivered the new one, but no, they did not install it, nor did they remove the old one. [insert mother of all eye rolls here] and of course it was friday. so all weekend the dishwasher sat in the middle of the floor, taunting us. yesterday (monday) i emailed the landlord again, and explained the situation. he emailed back the same day (first time that's happened, you can be sure of that) and said someone would be out "tomorrow morning" to install it. so karl stayed home this morning, and by 12.30 no one had showed up yet. so i got home from riding, showered, and called the contractors directly. the completely capable lady there responded "oh boy" to my story, but by her tone i could tell that she really meant, "lawdy, i TOLD those boys to get over there this morning, now WHERE are they? i'm going to have to go track them down and given 'em a good talking to, and that does NOT make me happy." but she called back and said they were on their way. and sure enough, they showed up 20 minutes later and are here now, making a complete mess of my kitchen.
