...alonnnnnnnng! whew! this software thing is really moving along. i've got the skeleton of an experiment coded up, and have plenty of bugs left to figure out, but hey, it's going, and i'm *actually* getting work done. shocking.

in other news, the auditions for richard II (the u.n.d.e.r.g.r.o.u.n.d s.h.a.k.e.s.p.e.a.r.e's next production) are today, and i haven't decided if i'm going to go down there or not. i would, i think, except that the weekend before the performances, karl and i are going to colorado (steamboat springs) to ski with ingrid and some of her friends. and i don't think the richard director would be too happy with me if i was missing then. i'll no doubt be involved somehow, though.

i gave karl a puzzle for xmas. dorky, yes i know, but he does love puzzles, and he is, in fact, a dork, which is fine by me since i am, also, a dork. evidence: in high school i had three best friends, ing, er, and jan. when we rode in a car together, we always made sure to "separate and integrate" (a la differential equations) so that we sat next to the person with whom we were the least close. right. dork. anyway, the puzzle. hm. well, i've lost interest in telling you about the puzzle now. maybe later.

[later] so the puzzle. karl and i have different puzzle algorithms. this is a major problem with our relationship (just kidding, duuuh). i want to collect all the edges, put 'em together, and add bits of inside as i get them assembled. also, i put 'like' pieces near each other (hedge bits over here, fountain bits over there, bits that look like a dragon has vomited on a stone wall bits in the middle). karl doesn't seem to put the 'like' bits near each other so much as remember where he put them. he acts more like the puzzle is a giant game of memory. so he got all annoyed last night when i moved a bunch of edge pieces that he was mentally remembering and looking for connectors to from the spots where they were to a central location where i could assemble them. whatever.

last night, besides working on the puzzle, karl moved one of the curtain rods in the living room up half an inch. you, dear reader, might not think this is exciting, and i grant you that probably, a report on the status of the dishes would be more interesting. however, what you do not know is that this curtain movement was yet another small step in the de-ghettoization of karl's apartment.

karl lives in an old building with Very Drafty windows. so he bought some of that insullation stuff that you tape up then blow with a hair dryer to make it shrink (this is what counts for fun when you're an adult, right?) (well, i have to admit, shrinking that plastic *is* pretty fun. not as fun as the puzzle, but fun). anyway, before he put up the insullation, he wants to clean the years of gunk build-up off. but each window takes 2 hours to clean, so this is no minor task (he's got 6 windows). ANYway, to keep the draft out in the meantime, he's blocked the windows with large pieces of cardboard and packing material. very ghetto. but slowly, he's cleaning the windows and putting up curtains and getting a stand for his t.v. (which was sitting on the floor, also very ghetto).
