alcohol poisoning, here we come!

i'm all for movies that don't spell everything out for you (i'm looking at you, "minority report") or hit you over the head with imagery (you too, "the matrix"). don't get me wrong. i like to do a little thinking in the theatre, i like to puzzle it out over beers later, it's all good. but, um, when you need to have read a fictional work of science-philosophy-fiction just to have a clue what in the name of google was going on, that might be pushing it a bit far. so while i very much liked donnie darko (and doesn't jake gyllenhaal (a) have a kickass last name, and (b) look JUST LIKE tobey maguire?)

last night i had the strangest dream (i sailed away to china, in a little rowboat to find ya, you said you had to get your laundry cleaned...). well, probably not the strangest, really. so my mom tells me and my sister that she's a lesbian, and that she's going to be marrying her girlfriend in a few months. we were all staying in some hotel (me, mom, sister, all staying in separate rooms, with strangers as roommates, except that mom was rooming with her girlfriend, who we'd all previously thought was just a casual friend). but she didn't tell us in person. nope. we got the message, written in blue ball point pen, on the top of a white styrofoam hamburger container. mine was addressed to borogoves & abby, and i didn't realize at first that my stranger-roommate was called abby.
