yay jim! jim jim, he's our man, if he can't do it no one can!!! hurrah for senator jim jeffords (r, soon to be i-vt) who just today announced that he will soon leave the republican party to become an independent, giving the democrats a 1-seat majority in the senate (50 dems, 49 repubs, 1 ind) and thus chairmanship of all the committees and power to control the legislative agenda. yay jim! the republicans are all (naturally) *really pissed off* and the democrats are celebrating. jeffords has said that he will vote with democrats on lots of issues. he noted, however, that he won't vote with democrats on all issues, so they shouldn't get their hopes up. i don't think *anyone* will be disappointed. even if he voted with the republicans, he still gave the democrats back control of the senate. hopefully, this won't prompt some conservative democrat to do the same thing...

i saw memento last night. oooo, gooooood movie. excellent movie. and can i just mention how *very much* i approve of the design decision to have guy pearce (leonard) spend most of the movie with his shirt off??? i approve. i approve a lot. 5, possibly 7Ms going on there. [have i mentioned about the M-scale for attractiveness rating? i guess not. when you see a *fine* looking person, you shake your head and say "mm mm mmm." well, that person rates a 3M. upon investigation, it was decided that the M-scale ranged from 1-7M, odds only (1,3,5,7). the higher the number, the more attractive the person. odd numbers only because even numbers of Ms don't sound right (try it, you'll see). 7Ms are given out only rarely. most of the population is neutral, 0Ms.] from what i know about anterograde amnesia (having studied it briefly in a graduate class on cognitive neuroscience), all the facts in the movie about anterograde amnesia are correct. anyway, you should get yourself to a theatre *at once* to see this film.
