my fielding sucks!

last night late i tried calling ryan. you know, the guy whose ad i responded to on blinddate.excite.com. (did i mention that in my last entry?) it was about quarter to eleven when i called, and no one answered. i had gotten home from softball and post-ballgame drinks at about, what, 8:30? spent all evening screwing up my courage to call him. weird, isn't it (actually, probably not weird at all) to be a little anxious when calling someone you don't know? i mean, this guy i've never spoken to, only heard from once over email. seems nice. it's that everpresent fear of rejection i suppose.

so, back to softball. what a farce. last evening we played a team of geneticists from the med school. they only had 2 girls (rules say you have to have 3 on the field) so we had the choice to accept their forfeit and play an exhibition game or just play them straight up. our coach didn't hear the bit about the exhibition game, so he (aae) thought if we took the forfeit we'd just go home right then, no game. we wanted to play, so we told them we'd play them straight up.

they were supposed to leave an empty spot on their team where the 3rd girl would've been, and they did leave that spot on the field, but they didn't leave it in the batting order. so, they were supposed to take an automatic out whenever that empty spot came up in the batting order, but they didn't. it doesn't really matter, since none of the psi jung players really give a hoot--we're just out there to have fun. but still--they beat us by 17 points or something, which is awfully embarrassing.

i certainly didn't help matters any. i only got one paltry hit in my 4 at bats (the others were strike out, and 2 fly outs). and my fielding *sucks*. i started out playing defensive pitcher (the teams pitch to themselves) and was moved to 2nd base after a couple of innings. i *sucked* at 2nd base. i can't field worth *crap*. a couple of times (3 actually) i stopped the ball with my legs. but i should've gotten it with my glove--hello? so today, i've got a swollen and bruised left ankle, a swollen and bruised right shin, and a swollen and bruised right knee. yippee. and we have another game tonight.
