belize, irises, roses, and peonies |

hi! back from belize! the short version:
we spent a week in the jungle, here, and had adventures. we tubed through caves, saw mayan ruins in guatemala, hiked through the jungle, were awakened by howler monkeys (mp3 file of the monkeys here. for authentic effect, turn volume all the way up), drank water from vines, ate stuff off the jungle floor, slept in a palm-thatched cabana, saw flying cockroaches that were THIS BIG (spread your thumb and index finger as far apart as possible with your other fingers folded in. yes, they were that big. yes, really.), camped in hammocks, and ate termites.
the next week, we spent on a small island in the lighthouse reef atoll about 45 miles off the coast of belize. here, we snorkeled and kayaked and laid around in hammocks.
flower news: while i was gone the irises, roses, and peonies started blooming.
