news about martin

so i hadn't heard a peep from martin in about a week, and was THIS FAR from writing him off. but i'm having a barbecue tonight (a west philly stoop sittin really, with papst blue ribbon, old granddad, scrapple, and watermelon. oh, and will smith on the radio) and i figured i'd evite him, thinking i'd either hear nothing or get some "i gotta play hockey" note.

i did get the "i gotta play hockey" note, but it was tempered by a "if i'm not too wiped out, i might swing by after the game" addendum. more interesting though (i know, how could anything be more interesting than THAT?) was the bit where he told me he has 8 year-old son back in england, and that moving to the states was wrenching, and that he's been wracked with guilt over that decision, and there have been regular tearful phone conversations with the boy and he (understandably) doesn't much feel like going out afterwards. so. i thought y'all might be interested in that development. i'll let you know how it turns out.

aside: is anyone else creeped out by that levi's commercial with the singing belly buttons?
