really, i got nuttin to say

straight up account of what's going on.

  • went to the gym twice yesterday. once in the morning for the elliptical machine and reading my current book the golden compass by philip pullman. once in the afternoon with laura for pilates influenced matwork. kicked. my. ass. actually not so much my ass as my abs. jeezus am i ever out of shape.
  • got an email from the grant people yesterday saying that somewhere in my application (where? they don't say. it's a game--find the error fast enough, you still might get funded!) the font doesn't comply with their stated guidelines (of not less than 10-point, not more than 6 lines per vertical inch, and not more than 15 characters (on average) per horizontal inch). the smallest type was 10-point times new roman, for my research proposal section. i had gotten out the ruler and checked the 6-lines-per-vertical-inch requirement, and just made it, but didn't check the 15-characters-per-horizontal-inch requirement. silly me. there were actually like 16.1 characters per horizontal inch, so they rejected my application. but, if i fix it and get it back to them within 4 business days (3, now), i can still be in the running. a wee bit picky, wouldn't you say? whatever. it's fixed.
  • movie night last night: saw swingers. only laura came. (what is it with people?) ate ketchup flavored potato chips. only just found out about those.
  • weekend: on sunday, karl and i watched some east enders on bbc america, then went and had a good irish brunch (with (as karl calls it) proper bacon, which is somewhere between bacon and ham), then threw the frisbee around in fairmount park. i suck at the frisbee. if i try to throw it more than about 20 ft, it goes off course, turn sideways, hits the ground, rolls around in circles, and generally doesn't get anywhere near the person i'm throwing it to.
  • karl's decided to turn in his car. he's 1 year into a 3-year lease on an audi tt, but with insurance it's costing him $700/month, and since he only drives it once or twice a week (he walks or bikes to work), he doesn't think it's worth it. he's been talking about this for a month or two, and is finally going to do it. on the one hand, i come from a family that almost exclusively buys used honda accords, so i've been brought up to think having a new car, especially something like the audi tt, as wasteful. on the other hand, DAMN is it nice to ride around in that car. and i mean DAMN. it's a solid 5M car (e.g. "mm mm mm mm MMM," with appropriately appreciative head wiggle and brow furrow.) anyway, i can't in good conscience ask him to keep it, but i'm sure going to miss it. he's looking to buy a cheap used car ($2000-$3000) to replace it and is sorta thinking of an old beetle. i'd prefer an old karmann ghia, but hey. it ain't gonna be my car. another possibility is his brother's '67 mustang, which has been sitting in his brother's garage for a couple of years now and would need a lot of work. but karl's nervous about the family dynamics if he tried to semi-permanently borrow his brother's car.
