st. thomas photo retrospective

to celebrate finally getting my act in gear and getting a gold membership, here's a photo essay of my annual vacation to st. thomas, usvi, with my mom and sister. mouse over the photos for a description.

the town of Charlotte Amalie retains much of its dutch charm. streets are named 'dronnegen's gade' and all the tropically-colored buildings have thick wooden doors to guard against hurricane winds. 2004. the view at sunset from the hotel pool deck. i never get tired of this view, and the way the colors lose their saturation in the late afternoon. 2002.

third anniversary wrap-up

on thursday (our 3 year anniversary, you will recall), i got home before karl and sat on the stoop with a magazine and the guinea pig, enjoying the afternoon. karl arrives on his bike with that cute bit of windblown hair in the front, a little swirl of hair blown back. and he's carrying a bunch of sunflowers. he's ridden all the way home one handed so he could carry them. what a sweetie! there were 5. "i thought about getting 3, one for each year, but thought it would look too small." "well then, we'll just have to stay together for 2 more years."

we held a semi-reenactment of our first date by sitting down with beers on the stoop and doing the crossword. eventually the mosquitos drove us inside where we made a particular point of NOT doing any home improvement. karl eventually suggested dinner and took me to the astral plane for dinner.
