planning for my trip
so i've come to grips with the fact that i'm going to have to do some actual planning for my trip. my trip, by the way, is a solo road trip across the country, from philly to seattle to san francisco, santa monica, flagstaff, ogden ut, boulder, el paso, austin, new orleans, columbus ga, wilmington nc, and back to philly. i'm taking the month of august to do this, and it's gonna be tight.
right, so i'm going to have to plan, at least a little bit. i've more or less got places lined up to stay, and i'll be camping at whereever in between. my dad's got a camping backpack, sleeping bag, and such to lend me, but no tent. laura claims she has a tent, but thinks it's missing a pole. i haven't thought at all about food and water. i had the vague idea that i was gonna be eating alot of peanut butter sandwiches, and buying fruit and veggies from roadside stands. but as i think about it, roadside stands are going to be few and far between, esp. in places like rural montana. hmmmm. i'll manage somehow.
i emailed rob the other day to check in and let him know a more accurate arrival date than "sometime in august". he wrote back saying that he's "hanging out alot" with liz, a woman he dated while at uva for a bit, and that he thought she'd be in town that weekend. hmph. when i first read his email, i was shocked and depressed. i was so looking forward to seeing him again, and perhaps getting a chance to explore more of his well-toned body. damn liz. but i've gotten over that, and now i just hope he's willing to let me crash on the sofa for a couple of nights, so i can at least see a bit of san fran. i think he thinks that i'm going to want to be all over him when i'm out there. i should probably write him a note to the effect that i just want a sofa to lay my head on...
i wish i had 6 weeks to do this trip in, instead of 4. i'm really going to be rushing to get back in time, and i really have to be back, since i'm moving on 5 september, and i haven't done any packing yet.
ah well, it'll be an adventure, whatever happens...
